Title of Book: Here’s to You Rachel Robinson
No. of Pages: 196
Main Characters: Rachel, Charles, Jessica, Tarren
Date of Publication: 1993
This book is the second part of the two-book series, and this time it’s in Rachel’s point of view. Rachel faces a lot of her own family problems at home. In addition, there are other issues she must deal with. Will these family problems get resolved? Will these issues affect her friendship with Stephanie and Alison?
Like the previous book, there are some things that stand out and Judy Blume has written a lot of things about what the family does including having dinner, facing family problems, and celebrating holidays and birthdays. Also, Rachel develops a crush on a a man in his twenties.
Like the previous book, there is a swear word in this one. This time it’s the “f” word in chapter 17. Chapter 22 involves normal kissing, but not making out: Rachel kisses a student named Jeremy. There are less sexual references than in the previous book.
Like before, the words are easy to understand, and I was able to put the pictures in my mind as I read along. And once again there’s an equal amount of dialogue and it helps understand what was going on.
My favorite event that happened in the book was when Charles, Rachel, Jessica, and their father went to Ellis Island. I liked the descriptions of the Great Hall and XXXX
Overall, if you have no problem with curse words, then I would recommend this book.
PROS: New characters, good descriptions of characters, recalls events from the previous book, words are easy to understand, no arguments between Rachel and her friends.
CONS: One swear word, some events are talked about and not heard again. For example: Charles calls his father, mother and sister names and his mom gets angry and bangs the dinner room table, but you never hear about the situation again. Plus, Rachel doesn’t mention the situation to her friends. Rachel doesn’t interact with her friends nearly as much as Stephanie did in the previous book, but there are a few scenes with them.
