ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Katie. I was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. For the longest time I had nothing to do with reading. No matter how hard my mom would bug me, I refused to pick up a book. I didn’t see the value of reading for a long time. My mom would try to get me to read Trixie Belden detective mysteries and for many years, I just didn’t want to. One day while we were living in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, my mom asked me for the hundredth time if I want to read Trixie Belden. To her surprise and my surprise I said yes. This started me on reading. I read all the Trixie Belden series and each time I read a few chapters, I would summarize them. It took me two years to read the books because there are 39 books in the series. Next, I read Nancy Drew. I think I read about 20 of them before my mom and I had a talk about reading. Her suggestion ? That I start reading books that would help me understand the world around me. So I chose to start reading animal facts books and I’ll be posting reviews of them. I since then moved on to middle grade novels. So what’s the purpose of this blog?
That’s a good question.
I know I missed out on learning about lots of things because I refused to read in my teens. Now that I’m in my twenties. I’m trying to catch up.
I know there are lots of young adults and teens like me who may have refused to read for one reason or another. But I want to tell you that reading is awesome. I’ve learned tons of stuff. Be on the lookout for my "Did you know" boxes that includes fun things I learned by reading fact books.

I'm sure there are many teens and adults with autism who have always liked to read and I say to them "congratulations." That's great! But there are many of us who have found it difficult to understand how important it is to read and the tons of knowledge you can get (and even use) from reading.
I want to make this blog fun and informational. Let me know in the comments or on my contact page if you would like to see a particular review and/or about any cool books you have read.
